Preparing for a baby can be overwhelming—especially when you're bombarded with countless baby products to choose from. I can totally relate. With a 10-year age gap between my oldest and youngest, it felt like I was a new mom again when I had my daughter. I wanted to be practical, avoiding the clutter of items I never used with my boys.

If you're like me and living in a multi-level home, one thing is clear: you'll want to have baby essentials on each floor to avoid hauling items from floor to floor. Versatile, lightweight items are key. As a mom with other kids to tend to, sometimes you just need your baby to be content and safe while you help your other children or need to take care of things around the house.

This isn’t your typical baby must-have list with diapers, wipes, stroller, etc. This is a list of baby items that I have found to be extremely helpful into this journey of motherhood that I think you would find helpful too. These items are practical and even my mom appreciates them when she comes to visit.

1. Anico EASZZZ Night Light (Amazon)

I can’t rave enough about this night light. It’s more than just a light—it’s a lifesaver during those midnight feedings and diaper changes. Unlike other lights that require you to tap it in just the right spot, this one is a simple flip to turn on. I’ve been using it since my hospital stay and it’s been perfect for nighttime use. The best part? I charge it about once every two weeks, and you can adjust the brightness to your preference. It’s portable, and I’ve even used it when older kids are sick and I don’t want to wake them by turning on bright lights in the middle of the night. If you need a bedside light that’s easy to move around, this is the one.

2. Hellobaby Upgrade Baby Monitor (5” Screen) + Mount (Amazon)

There’s a sea of baby monitors out there, but I knew I didn’t want one with Wi-Fi. After scouring reviews, I decided on the Hellobaby monitor, and I couldn’t be happier. With great night and day vision, two-way audio, lullabies, and a 1000-ft range, it does everything I need it to. I also bought the Hellobaby Monitor Mount that attaches to the crib, which is super handy. I love the sound quality, long battery life, and additional features like temperature and time display. This monitor has it all.

3. Canopy Bedside Humidifier (Amazon)

I already had humidifiers in every bedroom, so when I was expecting my daughter, I knew I needed one for her room. I stumbled upon the Canopy Humidifier, and I’m so glad I did. Not only does it have a sleek, aesthetic design, but it’s also incredibly easy to clean (you can toss it in the dishwasher). It doesn’t create the wet accumulation that can lead to mold, and the UV light in the filtration system kills bacteria. Plus, you can add essential oils for aromatherapy. It’s a game-changer, and I’ve been tempted to get one for every room.

4. Ergobaby Evolve 3-in-1 Bouncer (Amazon)

This bouncer is a lifesaver, especially for someone like me who’s always moving between rooms. It folds flat, making it easy to take anywhere—whether it's to the bathroom, or one of my boys' rooms. It’s lightweight, comfortable for my daughter, and easy to move around. I’ve even used it when I’m in the shower and need her to stay safe and entertained. If you’re a busy parent who is constantly on the go in your home and wants your baby to be with you, this is the perfect bouncer to get!

5. WildBird Aerial Carrier (Amazon)

The WildBird Aerial Carrier is a bit of an investment, but it’s worth every penny. As a first-time user of this brand, I can say it’s the most comfortable carrier I’ve tried. It’s lightweight, easy on my back, and adjusts perfectly to my newborn’s size. I love that it’s versatile enough for both short and long durations of use. Whether I’m folding laundry, doing dishes, vacuuming, or at a sporting event, I can keep my baby close while having both hands free. My daughter always falls asleep once she is in this carrier. I own three other carriers and this one has consistently been my go-to. My husband has even asked for one, so I had to purchase the larger size for him. I don’t think you can go wrong with it!

6. Snuggle Me Lounger

This lounger has been a game-changer for us. I use it all over the house—whether we’re relaxing on the couch or hanging out in bed. It’s the perfect way to help my baby feel secure while still allowing her to lounge. Plus, it has removable covers to keep things fresh and clean. My husband even joked about how comfy it looks and wished they made one for adults!

7. Bugaboo Giraffe Wooden High Chair with Newborn Set (Amazon)

At first, I didn’t think I needed a high chair so soon. I even went back and forth on whether it was necessary when my daughter was still an infant. After some careful thought, I decided to give it a try—and if I didn’t like it, I could always return it. I haven’t looked back since! The Bugaboo Giraffe high chair’s design blends seamlessly with my kitchen decor, and it’s incredibly functional. It comes in a variety of colors, so you can easily find one that matches your style. The newborn set attaches easily, and as my baby grows, the chair adjusts effortlessly without the need for tools or disassembly. I use it multiple times a day, and it’s perfect for keeping my baby safe and engaged while I cook or clean. Plus, with two dogs in the house, the high chair keeps them out of her space and allows her to be content—or even nap—while I get things done in the kitchen. Since it’s a high chair designed to last, I know it will be a staple at our kitchen table and yours for many years!

8. Parker Baby Diaper Caddy (Amazon)

These diaper caddies are a lifesaver, and I keep one upstairs and one downstairs. They help keep all of my baby’s essentials organized and easily accessible, reducing the number of trips I need to make back and forth. You can store so much in these caddies, and they make diaper changes so much more efficient.

9. Nestig Crib 3-in-1 Convertible Crib

When I came home from the hospital, I knew I wanted my baby in my bedroom. The Nestig crib made it so easy, especially after having a c-section. It’s a transition crib that starts as a mini crib, then converts to a full-size crib, and finally a toddler bed, so I didn’t need to buy a separate bassinet. It also has wheels that lock, making it incredibly versatile. One of the best features is being able to easily move it from room to room. If you live in a one-level home, you can easily wheel the crib anywhere in the house, which is perfect for when you need your baby close by, no matter where you are.

One night, when I thought I was ready for my daughter to sleep in her own room, I wheeled the mini crib into her room—but quickly decided to bring her back!

The company’s customer service is outstanding. There was a small defect in the original mini crib they sent, and they promptly sent a replacement—no hassle at all. The cost of the crib covers all the transitions, and assembly was so simple. The full-size and toddler bed pieces arrived in a separate box from the mini crib, which kept things organized and made it easy to avoid searching for pieces when it is time to transition. This crib is sturdy, well-made, and I’d buy it again in a heartbeat!

These products have truly made my day-to-day transitions so much smoother. Being able to care for all my children in a safe and practical way has made the everyday hustle a lot easier.
